Apples or Oranges

A fascinating theme to explore in any conversation about time is the distinction between linear time and Fractal Time.

Most of us live inside the familiar temporal code:

24 × 60

24 hours. 60 minutes. A continuous line.

We use it to measure, schedule, focus, consume, produce and allocate our lives.

But there is another question we can ask:

What if time is not only something we measure, but something we can develop?

This is where Fractal Time begins.

Instead of asking only:

“How much time do I have?”

we ask:

“What can this unit of time become?”

20 minutes can become attention.

Attention can become practice.

Practice can become competence.

Competence can become creation.

Creation can become value.

Value can become an asset.

An asset can become ownership.

Ownership can create new capacity.

Linear time measures duration.

Fractal Time explores transformation.

24 × 60 measures the passage of time.

72 × 20 explores the potential within it.

I’ve been developing this as a practical system through the 72:20 Fractal Time LogBook.

For me, this opens a much larger question:

What if the future of time isn’t about managing the clock better, but learning what our time can become?

I have learned that beginning something is rarely the hardest part. The harder part is returning. We start a project. We make a commitment. We have an idea. Then life happens. The rhythm breaks. First steps disappear Repeated footsteps remain A path becomes clear Fractal Time helped me see practice differently. Practice is not simply doing something again and again. It is creating a rhythm that allows an intention to become part of how I live. The transition is subtle: Intentional action →...

There is a moment when you realize that time did not disappear. Your attention did. A notification. A message. A link. A few minutes of scrolling. Then suddenly an hour has passed. A bright screen calls One finger opens the door Attention wanders This is one of the things Fractal Time has taught me to notice. Time is not only something measured by a clock. It is also experienced through attention. When my attention becomes scattered, my experience of time changes. When I consciously bring my...
